Introduction
Games stand out from other laser cutting projects because they have to work. A wall piece just has to look right. A game has to be playable — pieces have to fit on a board, slots have to grip without binding, dice have to roll true. That extra layer of design rigour is part of what makes games such satisfying projects to build.
This page collects the game designs on this site, with new ones added as I cut and test them.
What makes a good laser-cut game
- Tactile pieces matter. Half the pleasure of a board game is the feel of moving pieces. Solid wood or thick acrylic feels good in the hand; thin scraps feel cheap.
- Tolerances need testing. Slots, sockets, and interlocking pieces have to grip without forcing. That usually means cutting a test piece first and adjusting the kerf.
How the list works
The games are listed below in a single set rather than grouped by difficulty or age — there aren’t enough of them yet to need categories. Open any project page for photos, build notes, and the design source. Some files are free downloads I’ve found online; others I’ve purchased from independent designers on Etsy or similar marketplaces.
