Free Laser Cutting Toys

Introduction

Free Laser Cutting Toys

Toys are some of the most rewarding things to make with a laser cutter. Children don’t care about the perfect finish that adult-targeted gifts demand — they care that the thing moves, slots together, makes them laugh, or lets them play a game. That makes laser-cut toys forgiving to design and quick to build.

This page collects the toy designs on this site that are free to download. It’s a small but growing collection — I add to it as I build and test new toy projects.

A few notes on making toys

  • Choose your materials carefully. Plywood and MDF are fine for older children and decorative pieces, but smaller children put things in their mouths. For toys aimed at toddlers, food-safe wood and non-toxic finishes matter.
  • Watch the edges. A freshly laser-cut edge can be sharp, especially in acrylic. A quick pass with fine sandpaper turns a rough toy into a comfortable one.
  • Expect glue and assembly. Most laser-cut toys involve slotting pieces together. Wood glue is your friend; rubber bands are good for clamping awkward shapes while it dries.
