Toy Laser Cutting Projects

Introduction

Toy Laser Cutting Projects

Toys are forgiving projects. Children measure them by how fun they are, not by whether the corners are perfectly square, which makes them an excellent category for newer makers and a satisfying one for experienced ones. From simple stacking blocks to elaborate marble runs, almost anything a laser cutter can make can become a toy.

This page collects the toy designs on the site, with new ones added as I build them.

What to keep in mind when making toys

  • Sand the edges. Fresh laser-cut edges can splinter or feel sharp, especially on plywood. A few seconds with fine sandpaper makes a real difference.
  • Choose finishes carefully. For toys aimed at toddlers, stick to food-safe wood and non-toxic paint. For older kids, the usual finishes are fine.
  • Test the assembly. A toy that comes apart in five minutes isn’t a toy. Glue properly, clamp where needed, and let pieces cure before handing them over.
  • Keep parts large enough. Small detachable pieces are a choking hazard for younger children. Design or modify accordingly.

How the designs are organised

Designs are grouped by difficulty — easy, intermediate, then challenging — so you can pick something that matches your skill and the time you have. Each project page includes photos, build notes, and the design source. Most files are free downloads; some are paid downloads from independent designers.
